The Motor Cycling Club
Client Overview
The Motor Cycling Club (MCC) is a heritage-rich organisation with a deep history spanning generations. Its core audience consists of long-standing members who value tradition, as well as potential new members who require guidance and an easy onboarding experience.
Project Objectives
MCC approached me with a clear set of goals for their website rebuild:
Attract new members by creating a welcoming and informative online presence.
Retain existing members through improved user experience and streamlined access to club resources.
Promote club events to increase participation and engagement.
Deliver essential information in a structured and easy-to-navigate format.
Enhance brand awareness using multiple media types.
Challenges
The existing website had an outdated structure and broken functionalities, such as a non-functional e-news sign-up form.
Information was scattered across too many pages, making navigation cumbersome.
The website lacked an intuitive content management system (CMS) for easy updates.
The design needed to reflect MCC’s strong heritage while appealing to a broader audience.
The club needed a unique and engaging design that makes use of the attractive photography they have and captures the excitement of an MCC event. A nod to the club’s long and rich history would also be welcome. The logo and colour palette used for the design should reflect the MCC’s brand guidelines.
My Approach
1. User-Centered Design & Navigation Overhaul
We restructured the website’s navigation, ensuring a clear user journey. Key focus areas included:
Join as a Member: Streamlined sign-up process for new members.
Events Page: Centralised event listings with clear entry details.
General Content Pages: Consolidated and reorganized text-heavy content for better readability.
2. Modern, Visual-Led Design
Incorporated a highly visual approach with optimised imagery.
Ensured that the design adhered to MCC’s brand colours and typography.
Created responsive designs for both desktop and mobile experiences.
3. Key Features Implemented
Blog-style functionality for both news articles and opinion pieces.
User-friendly CMS to empower MCC’s team to manage content efficiently.
Contact form to streamline communication.
Social media integration, including a Facebook feed/icons and a YouTube feed.
Event countdown timer to build anticipation and engagement.
Results & Impact
Over the upcoming months after release (Mar 2025) We hope to see:
Improved Membership Engagement: The refined user experience made it easier for prospective members to join the club.
Increased Event Participation: Clear, well-organized event listings drove higher attendance and engagement.
Seamless Content Management: The new CMS allowed MCC’s team to update news and events effortlessly.
Higher Newsletter Sign-Ups: The repaired e-news form resulted in a significant uptick in sign-ups.
Conclusion
By focusing on user needs, structured navigation, and a visually engaging design, we delivered a website that not only honors MCC’s heritage but also ensures its continued growth and digital presence. The result is a powerful, user-friendly platform that supports both long-standing and new members alike.
